Feature Artist: Cheryl Dunye ~ Mommy is Coming
Often this city finds me in amazing places with groups of amazing people whose art and spirits become infectious– as with the past weekend. I had the opportunity to attend a screening of Mommy is Coming written & directed by Cheryl Dunye as part of Frameline 36 Film Fest. Staring Lil Harlow, Papi Coxx, Maggie Tapert, Cheryl Dunye, Océan LeRoy, and San Francisco’s own Jiz Lee and Sadie Lune. Also, on a side note– casting was done by our very own Annie Sprinkle– and might I say she did a bang up job.
This Film had everything– gender rebels, slapstick, Berlin, plot twists, boundary pushing, comedy, romance, a great soundtrack, taboo breaking sexuality- and hot porn-esq sex scences that got me worked up just enough to want more and left me wondering what hit the editing floor.
The crowd loved it, the laughter and exuberant vocality filled the historic Victoria Theater right from the start. Post screening, on hand for Q & A was dir. Cheryl Dunye, Sadie Lune, Jiz Lee and others, that I regretfully forget their names (editing and soundtrack)– but all allowed us the time and insight behind the making of this great romp of a film.
Good news– the film has been picked up– Go see it when it comes to your town!
