Feature Artist: Chas Ray Krider
I find myself in a position of amazement at my luck, along with the wonder of technology that has allowed me the opportunity to meet- through the wires- a photographer whose work I have much lusty admiration for - Chas Ray Krider. Residing out of Columbus, OH- which I am convinced is the erotic David Lynch-esq capital of America- comes the unmistakable imagery of Krider.
Reminiscent of Noir film stills, Krider’s work is deliberate and intentional in his capture of the “anticipation” of a moment. The moments that make up the story. In his images the viewer decides if the moment has happened or if it is about happen. One of my favorite images is shot from the outside of a motel window– looking in to the simple scene of a woman smoking in her yellow girdle and sheer black laced bra– her thighs and stance– strong, but her gaze, while confident displays a deeper story– a fucked up sultry dirty story. Like all good Noir– someone is going to get fucked, both literally and figuratively– Krider knows how to capture this complexity with composition, master lighting and simplicity.
As a librarian, we like to classify- I classify Krider in the realm of people like, David Lynch, Barry Gifford, Raymond Chandler– strange-surreal, wonderful and hard story tellers that let their characters guide the viewer to uncover the story that lay behind or ahead– plus, I just love women in sheer undergarments.
Luckily for all of us, Taschen has released the second edition of Chas Ray Krider’s Motel Fetish, edited by Eric Kroll. The first edition has long been out of print. The book is hard cover, 6.5×10 inches (17x25cm), with 274 pages.
Please Check out all my favorite Chas Ray shot on the Tumblr today, and come back Saturday for a special “Ass Appreciation” as seen through the eyes of Chas Ray Krider.
