Feature Artist: April-Lea Hutchinson
April-Lea Hutchinson captures women in various states of their being– adding a story for the viewer to create behind each shot. She has the ability to be simply complex– often using minimal setting allowing the light and shadow to be stark as it streaks across the landscape of the body.
Hutchinson also depicts women together unlike any other erotic photographer I have seen. She creates a connection between models that transcends erotica or pornography– there is loving understanding between the women and the tingling thread of common sexuality comes through in each image.
April-Lea also takes her work into nature– environmental erotica. Many of the outside shots make me reminiscent for all those lost summers spent in other places than I am right now– again combining the pure simpleness of nature with the complexity of the human brain and the beauty of the female form. These shots take me to another place and time– a crucial element of a good photo.
Hutchinson has shot some of my favorite models including Vivian De Milo, Lucy Dominga, Nettie Harris, and my new crush Erin-- so stunningly unique– oh my goodness, I am in love with her gap toothed smile. MEow.
This was a difficult artist feature to create because, April-Lea has an enormous and impressive body of work.
